Hukvaldy Castle [ Castle or ruin of castle ]The oldest news about the castle dates back to 1228. The historical sources say that the founder of the castle was Arnold von Hückewagen, a German from Rhine region who was feoffed the territory (from the Moravian Gate to the Odra river and the Beskydy mountain ridge) from the King Přemysl Otakar I. This was for his diplomatic services in arranging the marriage of Přemysl's daughter Anežka and the English King Henry. This Czech King's vassal settled around the year 1230 on the Starý Jičín castle. The thralls who lived near the Ondřejnice and Lubina rivers had to build a new stone castle for him which had to be similar to his castle in the Rhine region.
